How To Not Be An Insensitive Idiot
Hi! If you like this post, please share it with others or subscribe to my full RSS feed. Thank you! :)
Seeing that it is popular to be insensitive nowadays, I decided to write this handy guide. Whether your insensitivity is caused by the mass media or your own ignorance, this guide will attempt to shed some light on this issue. If you feel offended by it…maybe you should, because you might find yourself in one of those categories. I know that I do, but at least I am working on it. So, here it is:
1. Be careful with humor - Humor seems to be hot nowadays. From making you attractive to the opposite sex, to breaking the ice in a lame party, people like a person who can make them laugh. However, if you use it all the time, some will tend to not take you very seriously, especially if you consider Carlos Mencia to be funny (which he is not). Please, save your dignity by omitting jokes about midgets, war-torn countries, accents, Borat and/or somebody’s mom. I think everyone is tired of them, except the people who still find them funny. If you laugh at those jokes you are either bellow 13 years of age, an alien, or most likely, an insensitive idiot.
2. Make sure you know what you are talking about - I am not suggesting to read a thousand books or get a Masters in being a nerd. Some basic geography and reasoning skills would do the job. Here is how you can test yourself — if you are unsure whether there are trains in Africa, you might want to expand your knowledge a little bit. Having the Internet at your disposal could be a double edged sword, because what you read might have been written by someone with no authority, like a midget’s angry mom, who is living in a war-torn country and has an awful accent. Don’t shove your knowledge in everyone’s throats though, nobody wants to know about belly button fetish.
3. Be considerate - Everyone is living in their own little worlds, but there comes a time when you just have to care for the little worlds of those around you. Like Einstein said, “you start living when you start living outside yourself” (or something like that). You cannot win or benefit every time, and even if you did, that would be one boring life. See how you can help others to win their little battles and you just might feel good about yourself. If you don’t, you might be an insensitive idiot, but since you are reading this you are not one so don’t worry.
4. Smile - So simple and yet so under appreciated. I don’t mean a pedophile/stalker/psycho smile, but a smile which would hint that you are a human being and not just advertising space. Smiling is universal, so it might be a good idea to do it if you are caught by the Mexican police while having sex with a goat. But then again, if you follow this guide and are considerate, you would never want to hurt the goat’s feelings. Trust me.
5. Your truth is not my truth - Wow, this is a big one. Think about it, the places that we grow up in, our experiences, families, religions vary immensely. So, our ideas of beauty, freedom, behavior, etc are bound to be different. In that case, it is best to absorb somebody’s differences and enrich your knowledge, rather than trying to have a pointless argument. If you have watched NBC, CNN, FOX, etc, you know what a pointless argument looks like. It only aims to get you excited over nothing (much like Nascar and male enhancement pills).

Politically incorrect, insensitivity and generally treading on hot coals makes it increasingly difficult to get personal views and expressions over. You are right.

I believe this article is truly an eye-opener and an edifying piece of knowledge that can incredibly change the way people are existing in this lifetime.
I reflect this article can possibly facilitate (in its own little way) to ignorant and chesty people on the block so as to they can reassess and reevaluate their lives.
I wish this article can subsequently educate and influence people all over to start making a difference now in their lives and their own little way.

About number 5, if your truth is true and, therefore a fact, it must also be true for everyone else.
